Introduction

Tense is a form of a verb that shows the time of an action. It tells us whether an action happens in the present, happened in the past, or will happen in the future.

There are three main tenses:

1. Present Tense

2. Past Tense

3. Future Tense

Each tense has four forms.

1. Present Tense

Present tense is used to talk about actions that happen now, regularly, or generally.

a) Simple Present

Use: Regular habits, facts and general truths.

Example: She reads a book every day.

b) Present Continuous

Use: An action happening at the present time.

Example: She is reading a book now.

c) Present Perfect

Use: An action that has been completed recently or has a connection with the present.

Example: She has read the book.

d) Present Perfect Continuous

Use: An action that started in the past and is still continuing.

Example: She has been reading for two hours.

2. Past Tense

Past tense is used to talk about actions that happened in the past.

a) Simple Past

Use: A completed action in the past.

Example: She read a book yesterday.

b) Past Continuous

Use: An action that was continuing at a particular time in the past.

Example: She was reading a book.

c) Past Perfect

Use: An action completed before another past action.

Example: She had read the book before the class started.

d) Past Perfect Continuous

Use: An action that continued for some time before another past action.

Example: She had been reading for two hours before dinner.

3. Future Tense

Future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future.

a) Simple Future

Use: An action that will happen in the future.

Example: She will read a book tomorrow.

b) Future Continuous

Use: An action that will be continuing at a particular time in the future.

Example: She will be reading a book at 8 p.m.

c) Future Perfect

Use: An action that will be completed before a particular time in the future.

Example: She will have read the book by tomorrow.

d) Future Perfect Continuous

Use: An action that will continue for a period of time up to a particular point in the future.

Example: She will have been reading for two hours by 8 p.m.

Conclusion
